PTSD is an anxiety disorder and the symptoms can often overlap with other similar conditions. There have been multiple studies by very reputable sources suggesting the effectiveness of alternative treatments for PTSD. Only if those symptoms persist beyond three months do we speak of them being part of a disorder. It is important to inquire about the use of prescribed medications (and adherence), alcohol use, and recreational drugs. We limited ourselves to studies that either explicitly assessed PTSD as a disorder or used DSM criteria to assess post-traumatic stress symptoms; we did not include several other studies that assessed only psychological symptoms or other psychiatric disorders after disasters.
